Gah, the sun is really bright... everything's so beautiful... no work getting done today.

I do need to update that sql database or else all those sites I fixed Thursday will be useless... then again, I do start my new Monday morning schedule for the consulting. Should get more done, less sleep in my chair.

if someone had explained to me a while ago that the largest part of management is being able to explain that you have no idea what you're doing in terms that make it sound like you know exactly what you're doing, I think I could have been a very effective manager.

Not to say that management is all about having no idea what you're doing. Its the teamwork aspect that I was never really privvy to. The concept that people work together, but all have different specialities, functions, knowledge, etc. One or two perople good at managing different types of people, and assembling a team of people that know lots of little things. I used to think it was all about the little things.... which it is.

That is, unless you have someone working on the details already.

Thank goodness for DDR. Now, I'm sure there are plenty of sarcastic remarks to be made about it, but without Dance Dance Revolution (DDR), I'm sure I'd probably start killing people, or be masturbating waaaay more than I should be. Its a good stress releif, especially when you remind yourself, its only a game... I'm only on speed...

Marble Cliff Commons Floorplan Designer is one of the most recent flash apps of ours that I'm actually relatively proud of. Mainly due to the fact that its modular, and updating is now mostly painless.

By mostly painless I mean It involves a crow bar to get me peeled off the floor when our clients send us vector .eps file that don't import gradients into flash cleanly. That just makes me want to cry. That and put an orange tint on everything, just because it doesn't go with the color scheme.

Technologically speaking:

There's a dissonance present in my mind when I think of hosting that involves one server for web services, and a separate server on a separate provider to handle mail. Then again, when you set up your clients on a provider's servers, mail and web handled by the same servers, and the mail and web services work fine for several MONTHS, its a little suprising when suddenly all mail services stop working. Even more suprising when the sysadmin at the provider says that there are all sorts of "misconfigurations" present, specifically:

"there are several issues that may be affecting the mail service. Some of these domains did not have proper MX records. This I have rectified. Many of the domains show a Status as Registrar Lock instead of Active when you perform a Express lookup or Whois. Some of these domains are still pointing to the wrong nameservers including some pointing to Innerhost (our provider) name servers. And the main domain that you are using as the main nameserver, (name removed for sanity's sake) appears also as Lock. Please check all your DNS records and the registration status and which nameservers (to which) they are pointing"

We are currently moving away from this provider as a result. The configurations have been like this for months and worked properly, and suddenly as though a tree fell onto a high-power line somewhere in Florida (Interland's home) our services were null and void to critical customers.

Not the best business practices.
